When it comes to anti-aging and wrinkle reduction, this often means using advanced facial plastic surgery technqiues to smooth away lines and leave the skin looking younger and refreshed.

Marionette lines are some of the more problematic lines that affect people as they get older. Let's see what they area and how they can be treated.

About Marionette Lines?

Marionette lines refer to the lines that form at the sides of the mouth and extend down to the sides of the chin. The lines are called marionette lines because they bear some resemblance to the lines at the sides of the mouth of a marionette, ventriloquist dummy, or a nutcracker. These types of wrinkles can be quite off-putting, and can leave you looking much older than you really are.

What Causes Marionette Lines?

Marionette lines are typically caused by the natural aging process. As people get older, the collagen in their skin breaks down, resulting in sagging, drooping, and poor overall appearance of the face. Marionette lines can be made much worse due to sun damage, weight loss, smoking, and a poor diet.

Thankfully there are treatments available to help reduce the appearance and prominence of these kinds of wrinkles. Not all of them are surgical either.

Dermal Filler Injections

Dermal fillers are injections that add volume to the area they are placed. By using a dermal filler, the skin appears more supple and healthier. Dermal fillers are great for deep lines, wrinkles, hollows, and major sagging, which means that are a fine way of getting rid of marionette lines.

There are different kinds of dermal fillers out there to choose from, including Restylane®, collagen, and Hylaform®. The best dermal filler for you and your needs will be determined during the consultation process.

Fat Transfer Injections

Also known as micolipoinjection, fat transfer works in a similar way as dermal fillers. The difference is that the filler used is actually the fat from a patient's own body. This fat is harvested from the abdominal area and buttocks, and then injected into different parts of the body to help boost volume and fight wrinkles.

One of the key benefits of fat transfer is that it allows patients to lose a little unwanted fat while also having lines and wrinkles removed in the process.

Lower Face Lift Surgery

In some cases, facial plastic surgery proves a better option than injectable treatments. The lower face lift is ideal for jowls and marionette lines. During the lower face lift, incision are made behind the lower parts of the ears. Through these incision sites, excess skin and fat is removed, and the remaining skin is pulled tighter.

Sometimes a lower face lift is combined with a neck lift when patients have a sagging chin, a double chin, or a poor neckline. These procedures can improve your overall appearance a great deal.

Tailoring Treatment for You and Your Needs

Each patient is different, which means that some procedures may prove more effective than others. During your consultation, we will be sure to go over all treatments in greater detail and help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
