The results of a body contouring procedure depend on multiple factors: a patient’s body type, health, and lifestyle will all influence the final outcome. However, an equally important factor is the procedure itself, including the technique used and the surgeon’s familiarity with it. As a highly trained and experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Vishnu Rumalla is extremely comfortable with the technologies he utilizes, and liposuction is no exception.

Through the use of ultrasonic energy, liposuction has produced truly beautiful results for our patients in Fort Worth. Here is what you need to know about the ultrasound-assisted liposuction technique.

What Is Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction?

In ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL), ultrasonic energy is emitted into the body, directed at unwanted deposits of fat. As the energy passes through the fat, its cells are broken down and liquefied. Through the use of a small tube, called a cannula, the fat is then removed.

In traditional liposuction, the cannula is also used for the separation of fat. Therefore, surgeons must manually break the fat apart through movement of the cannula, sometimes resulting in damage to nearby tissue. With the assistance of ultrasound, fat can be more easily removed, providing effective results with little risk.

Types of Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction

When ultrasound is used in conjunction with liposuction, it is generally employed in one of two ways. Both methods can produce similar results, with individual doctors usually being trained and experienced in one technique or the other:

In order to minimize the risk of burns or damage to adjacent tissue, UAL also utilizes a tumescent solution prior to surgery. This solution, containing epinephrine and a local anesthetic, is injected into the site of liposuction, causing it to become temporarily swollen and firm. By enlarging the area, the correct tissues can be more accurately targeted. Additionally, tumescent liposuction significantly reduces side effects after surgery, including bleeding, swelling, and bruising.

Between the benefits of UAL and tumescent injection, it’s clear how our techniques can give you outstanding, safe plastic surgery results.

The Benefits of Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction

From the procedure itself to your recovery and lasting results, UAL can bring many advantages to an already successful procedure. Here are some of the benefits you can expect from internal or external UAL:
