What Are the Benefits of a Tummy Tuck for Men? By Vishnu Rumalla on June 06, 2020

Male chest shows large muscles and chiseled abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure that tightens the abdominal area by removing excess skin and firming the underlying muscles. Patients often seek the cosmetic benefits of a tummy tuck following drastic weight loss.

Men are often great candidates for the tummy tuck procedure. If you live in or around Fort Worth, TX, and desire a more athletic-looking midsection, Dr. Vishnu Rumalla can discuss the benefits of a tummy tuck for men during your cosmetic consultation. Many of our male patients have found that the procedure results in a more toned midsection and boosted self-confidence.

Are You a Candidate?

There are many reasons that our male patients seek the cosmetic benefits of a tummy tuck. The aging process can be unkind to the midsection and lead to undesirable abdominal issues. Male candidates for tummy tuck should have a realistic understanding of what plastic surgery can and cannot do. Cosmetic procedures are not a replacement for healthy eating and regular exercise.

Loose Skin

Skin laxity can leave sagging rolls of skin that cannot be addressed through diet and exercise. Many middle-aged men experience significant weight loss, either as the result of diet or natural changes in metabolism. Weight loss can cause skin sagging.

Fat Deposits

If you have stubborn pockets of fat that you want removed, Dr. Rumalla can perform liposuction during your tummy tuck procedure in Fort Worth. Combining multiple cosmetic treatments can deliver life-changing results.

Loose Abdominal Muscles

If loose abs leave your stomach sagging, Dr. Rumalla can surgically tighten your abdominal muscles. Once the muscles have been repositioned, you can benefit from a more slender mid-section.

Other Considerations

Candidates should also be in good overall health and free from conditions or medications that can complicate surgery and recovery. It is important to remember that a tummy tuck will not deliver an instant “six-pack,” but can drastically reverse many signs of aging.

How Does a Tummy Tuck Work?

Your tummy tuck procedure will be customized to meet your personal needs and cosmetic goals. The outpatient procedure, which is performed under general anesthesia, can last anywhere from two to five hours. Dr. Rumalla will begin by making an incision horizontally near your lower abdomen and around your navel.

Dr. Rumalla will then surgically tighten abdominal muscles. Fat can be removed through the use of liposuction. Once loose skin has been pulled down, excess skin will be removed as needed and the navel will be repositioned. The final steps involve suturing any incisions and placing surgical dressing.

Recovery

You will be given recovery guidelines that are to be followed closely. We encourage our Fort Worth patients to rest for a few days following surgery, although light walking will be important to reduce your risk of blood clots.

Once you recover, you can maximize your cosmetic benefits by eating a nutritious diet and exercising regularly. Weight gain following surgery can lead to sagging skin. You should consider cosmetic surgery part of your new commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
