What Is BOTOX and How Does It Work?

BOTOX is a safe, FDA-approved cosmetic injectable manufactured from botulinum toxin Type A. Injected in very small doses, this popular treatment blocks nerve signals to facial muscles that continually contract and create wrinkles. This causes the muscles to remain still for the next 3 or 4 months. When the muscles can't contract, wrinkles and fine lines will eventually soften and become less visible.

Dr. Rumalla also offers an alternative to BOTOX called Dysport®. Both contain botulinum toxin, but Dysport is mainly used for deep frown lines.

Return to Your Day

That's it! You can immediately go back to work or resume your day as normal, but take care not to strain yourself or exercise for about 24 hours. You should also wait 24 hours to put on makeup, and be careful during this time not to touch the treatment areas.

Results

Each patient is different, but you should start to see wrinkles and lines begin to soften in about a few days to a week. The transformative effects of the treatment will be more noticeable as time goes on and can last up to four months.

Any Side Effects?

Serious side effects are very rare. There may be a little bruising around the injection sites, but that will fade quickly. Choosing our board-certified physician assistant to provide your BOTOX treatment will reduce the risk of post-injection issues.
