Breast Augmentation Recovery Fort Worth
Choosing to have a breast augmentation may seem complicated, but at Tarrant Plastic Surgery we like to make the process as simple as possible. On this website you will find resources from answers to frequently asked questions, helpful hints, our before and after gallery, and 3-D animation videos. We also have helpful content to explain the risk and benefits of silicone implants and our bio-dimensional sizing process. We at Tarrant Plastic Surgery understand that patients get bombarded with information from other doctors, friends, and of course the internet. One of the most important patient concerns is breast augmentation recovery, an important area of discussion for our Fort Worth, Keller and Southlake patients.

To best understand this, one must understand the goals and motivations of any good surgeon. These principles always begin with treating your patient with respect, protecting their privacy, and enhancing their dignity. The set of principles include an obligation to preserve patient safety, promote patient satisfaction, and finally a commitment to a durable, long lasting result. Our breast augmentation recovery process has been devised with these core principles in mind.
Breast Augmentation Recovery: What to Expect
When it comes to breast enhancement surgery, there are differing opinions on the steps involved in the recovery process. We have been recommending the following breast augmentation recovery model to our Fort Worth area patients for the last decade with great patient results.
Step 1, The Day of Surgery: Hopefully you got a goodnight of rest. A standard breast augmentation takes less than one hour. You will have your breast wrapped in an ACE wrap and wake up with ice on your chest. You will spend another hour and half in the recovery room. Our friendly staff will reinforce the post-operative instructions that you were given in the office. We recommend you then go home, have a light meal, walk every few hours and then get some rest. Though your surgery has been crafted and performed with the precision to withstand more moderate activity like a night out to dinner—the question we ask is “why test it?” Dr Rumalla replies when people ask: “Going to dinner is just a chance for you to trip over a curb, get food poisoning, or run into a nosey neighbor!” None of these events are pleasant.
Step 2, Post-Operative Days 1-3: All patients who have had a breast augmentation are personally seen by Dr Rumalla the day after surgery. He will change your dressings, fit you into a bra that we will provide by us, and allow you to shower the second morning after surgery. Patients during this period will be able to lightly resume simple activities like going to the grocery store, a sit down social event, and be back at a desk job by post-operative day three. If you are off narcotics, patients may be able to drive several days after surgery.
Step 3, Days 4-2 week post-operation: Most patients will see personally see Dr Rumalla again. We will provide and he will reiterate the progressive lifting of activity restrictions. Most women will be walking the neighborhood at the one week mark, have slowly increased their range of motion, and have moved to a sports bra. Massage is added if needed. THERE ARE NO COOKIE CUTTER OPERATIONS IN PLASTIC SURGERY. Some women may not require doing much massage after breast augmentation.
Step 4, Week 2-Week 6: Once again you will be seen by Dr Rumalla. An aggressive scar management protocol is instituted. Most women have resumed moderate exercise including light jogging and light weight lifting. Patients are given more freedom in the bras they choose to wear and most patients can be back in the pool a month after surgery.
