Breast Implants Fort Worth

Side profile of young Caucasian woman cupping naked breastsSince the release of Mentor cooperation’s ultrahigh profile silicone gel implants at the end of 2012, we are seeing dozens of consultations to discuss breast implants each month at our Fort Worth office, with patients wanting to discuss this new option.  These cohesive gel implants do not replace any of the existing lines of Mentor Memory Gel silicone breast implants but instead offer more projection for any given width. Like all cohesive gel implants in the line, they are filled with a solid gel silicone instead of liquid silicone found in the implants of the last century and are FDA approved.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Implants?

Good candidates for breast implants at our Fort Worth area practice include woman considering primary breast augmentation, breast reconstruction, and revision augmentation. Women need to be at least 22 years of age to consider any silicone gel implants and undergo an informed consent process prior to surgery.  In the past primary breast augmentation candidates with a narrow chest/breast width and desiring a more aggressive fill, often chose saline implants to achieve breast projection.  The new Ultrahigh cohesive gels help fill this void.  Reasons we often hear why women are considering breast enhancement include:

  • Bringing better balance and harmony to their overall shape
  • Restoring a look that was lost after pregnancy and breast feeding
  • Correcting asymmetry between breasts
  • To reinvent themselves

In my practice, these implants are usually placed under the muscle and usually through a infra-mammary crease incision.  The advantages of a silicone gel implant are that there is less implant visibility, palpability, and rippling.  The disadvantages of silicone gel implants are that they are pre-filled and thus are not adjustable like saline implants to correct minor asymmetry.  In addition, silicone implants require a slightly longer incision to place them.

Choosing the Right Breast Implant for You

The right type of breast implant for you will depend on your personal needs and goals. Thankfully, Tarrant Plastic Surgery offers a range of implant options with different sizes, shapes, and textures. Dr. Rumalla can provide a detailed overview of your options and a personalized recommendation during your free consultation.

For patients who are seeking breast augmentation revision, the new Ultrahigh profile silicone gel implants offer the opportunity to address concerns like implant rippling and visibility seen with saline implants. These implants can be combined with or without lifts to improve breast shape and aesthetics.  Prospective candidates will also appreciate the better feel characteristics of a silicone gel implant versus a saline device.

In terms of breast cancer reconstruction, the new Ultrahigh cohesive gel silicone implants allow us to achieve better aesthetic results.  With the new device, breast reconstructive patients are enjoying higher projection then they might of in the past with lower profile devices.  Breast reconstruction surgery and revisions of breast reconstruction are generally covered by major insurance companies.

The major risks of any breast enhancement or implant reconstructive surgery include bleeding, infection, capsular contracture (hardening of the breasts), and rupture of the implant.   Each risk has a very low probability and patients are closely followed post-operatively to minimize them.  The Mentor Memory Gel line of implants has a limited lifetime warranty in the event of a rupture including product replacement.
