Botox and Dysport

WHAT IS BOTOX© AND DYSPORT©?

Both are popular wrinkle relaxers that work beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines – to help them look visibly smoother.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

While there are many uses for Botox and Dysport in the human body, cosmetically we use it for fine lines and wrinkles of the face, neck and decollatage.

  • glabella (area between your brows when you get mad)
  • forehead lines (when you raise your brows)
  • crow’s feet (from squinting and smiling)
  • bunny lines (snarling of the nose)
  • gummy smile
  • lipstick lines (also known as smoker’s lines but they happen in all of us!)
  • downturned nose
  • upturned or peau d’orange (dimpling) chin
  • marionette lines (frowning)
  • square jaw (teeth grinding muscles)
  • platysma bands (neck lines that strain when you show your bottom teeth)
  • necklace lines
  • creping in the decollatage (chest)

HOW DID I GET THOSE LINES TO BEGIN WITH?

Repeated muscle contractions from facial expressions, such as frowning or smiling, cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. Besides aging and genetics, there are other factors that can accelerate the signs of aging, including smoking, sun exposure, and certain illnesses.

WHO IS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE?

Botox and Dysport are popular at any age. In our 20s and 30s, we are already starting to see lines during movement, we refer to this as the prejuvenation phase. Starting treatment at this age can easily prevent the deeper wrinkles we see in older generations. In our 40s and 50s, we start to rejuvenate and return to a more youthful appearance. Even into our 60s, 70s and 80s we can obtain natural results that turn back the hands of time. Recently, men of all ages have also started receiving Botox and Dysport.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

It’s such a quick 10-minute treatment with minimal downtime, that it’s often referred to as the lunch time treatment. You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, peaking at two weeks (occasionally a touch up is needed if excessive movement is noted at this time), with results lasting up to 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines. Botox and Dysport deliver predictable, subtle results, so you look like you, only with less noticeable facial lines.

HOW MUCH DO I NEED AND WHAT DOES IT COST?

At Tarrant Plastic Surgery, we offer free consultations so that each treatment is customized based on the size and location of the muscle and severity of the wrinkle. Areas vary in price starting around $150-250. Be prepared to wash your face upon arrival and bring your make up along to retouch before you leave, ensuring a safe procedure. We purchase product directly form the manufactures, ensuring authenticity.

WHAT ARE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS?

Contrary to popular belief, there is no deadly toxic ingredient that is life threatening. Because Botox and Dysport are injected with a needle, the most common side effect is a slight discomfort at the injection site and bruising. Brow and eyelid drooping occasionally can be seen by even the most trained injectors and are temporary. Infection , injection site pain, swelling, visual changes and headaches have been reported.

Fillers

WHAT IS A DERMAL FILLER?

A dermal filler is a product that is injected into the skin to restore volume loss and provide non-surgical rejuvenation. They are commonly used to improve, enhance and prevent the signs of aging.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TYPES OF FILLERS AVAILABLE?

In the US, the most commonly used fillers, Restylane and Juvederm, are made of hyaluronic acid. Since this is a natural sugar already found in our skin, the body is able to safely break the product down over time. Sculptra is a unique filler that actually creates a framework that allows your body to build your own collagen over time. Radiesse also promotes long term collagen but has the added benefit of seeing some immediate results . Around the world there are numerous types of fillers and those entering the US market are increasing every year. Your provider can help you decide which product is best suitable for the areas you are looking to correct.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Dermal fillers can be used in almost any area of the body. The most common areas include:

  • brows (to help lift and improve sagging)
  • temples (hallowing here is often referred to as the peanut head)
  • tear troughs (dark circles under the eyes)
  • cheeks (our largest areas of volume loss in the face)
  • nose (non-surgical nosejob)
  • laugh lines (the parenthesis seen from nose to chin)
  • lips (either to restore lost volume or to create fullness)
  • chin (which shortens and turns up with age)
  • jawline (loss of bone and dental changes cause our jawline to lose definition)
  • marionette lines (those pesky down-turned corners of the mouth)
  • necklace lines
  • earlobes (to increase volume to hold up earings and to erase wrinkles/creases)
  • hands (to reduce the appearance of tendons and veins)

HOW DID I LOSE VOLUME TO BEGIN WITH?

Aging is the number one cause of volume loss. Sure, the skin loses some elasticity and stretches over time, but the real volume loss takes place beneath the skin. When we were younger, baby fat and stronger healthy bone provided solid structure for our skin to sit upon. Decades later, the fat shrinks and the bone whither, allowing gravity to take over.

WHO IS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE?

Everyone is a candidate for dermal fillers! Clients as young as 20 seek out facial contouring and lip enhancement. In our 40s and 50s, we typically seek out non-surgical treatments to reverse volume loss. Even into our 70s and 80s, clients are looking for ways to help make them look as young as they feel. Men currently make up the fastest growing market to help keep the chiseled look of youth.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

With Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse, results are immediate and continue to improve over a few week’s time. Sculptra, offers a different approach as the volume replacement is more gradual over 2-3 months. Each take approximately 15-30 minutes to inject and can last 6 months – 2 years, depending on the product and amount used. Restylane and Juvederm are often preferred in certain areas due to the fact they can be reveresed if needed.

HOW MUCH DO I NEED AND WHAT DOES IT COST?

At Tarrant Plastic Surgery, we offer free consultations so that each treatment is customized based on the type of filler, the amount of volume loss and location. A good rule of thumb is a syringe for every decade old you are. Areas vary in price starting around $600-800 per syringe. Be prepared to wash your face upon arrival and bring your make up along to retouch before you leave, ensuring a safe procedure. We purchase product directly form the manufactures, ensuring authenticity.

WHAT ARE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS?

Side effects, such as swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, tenderness, lump formation, itching at the injection site are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7-10 days. Rarely, blockage of a blood vessel resulting in skin necrosis, severe scaring and blindness have been reported. While this is a risk all injectors face, at Tarrant Plastic Surgery we have invested a lot of time into training and our injectors have an emergency protocol in place if such an event were to ever occur.

KYBELLA

HOW DOES KYBELLA WORK?

Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat, it destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness. Kybella does not work on cellulite, it will not tighten the skin, and no change in weight is exepcted. It literally is just contouring the fat.

HOW DOES THIS DIFFER FROM COOLSCULPT?

Coolsculpt is best for larger areas of fat deposition and it cannot be used on the jowls. Some patients will treat an area with coolsculpt first and clean up small areas that cannot be fully treated. Both treatments are brought to you by Allergan, the makers of Botox and Juvederm.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Kybella can be used on any area of fat accumulation. If you can pinch it, we can inject it. The most common areas include:

*submental (under the chin)

*jowls

*bra fat (that hangs out of the bra area front and back, and the underwire)

*upper arms (referred to as bat wings or turkey arms)

*flanks (love handles)

*abdomen

*thighs (inner, banana roll, saddle bags, inner knees)

IS THE TREATMENT PERMENANT?

Yes! Just like liposuction, once these cells are destroyed, they can no longer store or accumulate fat. Fat cells do not have the ability to divide like the skin does, they can only get bigger and smaller over time (like filling or deflating a balloon). Further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

WHO IS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE?

Kybella is not meant to be an obesity treatment. Results are best in patients with active lifestyles, that have a small area they can pinch, and for those with the genetic double chin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

After KYBELLA® treatment, you will likely have some stinging, swelling, bruising, or numbness. Numbness and tingling is common and usually resolved completely after a few weeks. It will take 2-3 months for the body to get rid of this fat to see the desired results. Multiple treatments may be needed to reach the desired outcome.

HOW MUCH DO I NEED AND WHAT DOES IT COST?

At Tarrant Plastic Surgery, we offer free consultations so that each treatment is customized based the location and amount of fat to be treated. The number of treatments varies person to person. Treatments for small areas can start around $400 and take only 15-20 mintues to treat. We purchase product directly form the manufactures, ensuring authenticity.

WHAT ARE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS?

Be sure to inform our staff if you develop an uneven smile, drainage, facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing or injection site problems such as bruising, hair loss, open sores (ulcers), and damage and tissue cell-death (necrosis) around the injection site.
